When to Use Climate Controlled Storage | Go Mini's of Ventura County!

When You Should Use Climate Controlled Storage

Storing your belongings correctly is essential to their preservation over the long-term. Our standard portable storage containers are fine for a broad range of things, including vehicles, tool, seasonal yard upkeep equipment, and similar items. However, there are a number of personal and household items that would be better kept in our portable storage containers that offer climate controlled storage. The condensation that can result from fluctuations in temperature can be destructive in its own right, but that moisture also gives mold and decay the opportunity to flourish. Climate controlled storage helps prevent such damage. Read on to see the list of items you should store in climate controlled storage…

Electronic Equipment And Computers

When storing sensitive electronic equipment and computers, you should use a climate controlled portable storage container. Otherwise the condensation that temperature fluctuations can produce may cause damage to the equipment. The delicate inner metal parts could rust and wiring could degrade. Moisture from the condensation could get trapped inside over time, just a couple drops, and cause a short the next time the equipment is used.

Art, Books, And Musical Instruments

These items can be damaged by changes in temperature and humidity, particularly if those changes result in mold. When these have been stored away for a long time and carry that musty smell, it is a sign that there has been enough change in humidity level to allow mold or mildew spores to become active. Mold and mildew can stain, destroying paintings, photos, and books. Professional cleaning may be able to mitigate that damage, but there’s no guarantee that the original condition will be able to be restored. It is far better to avoid such damage by choosing self storage locations offering climate controlled storage.

Fine Textiles, Fur, Seasonal Wardrobes

Organic, natural materials, like linen, cotton, and wool, are best stored in storage containers that offer climate control. Expensive wall hangings, tapestries, and other fine textile types of decorative art need carefully controlled temperatures to stay at their best for years to come. Furs are another item that should be stored in a climate controlled environment. To avoid the mustiness and mildew made possible by temperature fluctuations, seasonal wardrobes should also be stored in climate controlled containers.

Storing Items Correctly Helps Them Last

Providing the correct storage environment for your belongings will help them last a lot longer. Items that need to be in climate controlled storage can be significantly damaged by condensation and temperature extremes. If you are in doubt on how to store an item, or on the side of the safer choice, controlled climate. A safe rule of thumb is if it is electronic or if it is made of organic materials, materials that could provide sustenance for mold or fungus spoors, climate control is the way to go. If you’re still not sure whether or not you have belongings that would benefit from being placed in our climate controlled portable storage container, give us a call and we’ll help you figure it out with our storage experts!

Go Mini's Introduces Climate Controlled Portable Storage Containers!

Blog

Go Mini's Climate Controlled Containers!
Posted on 2013-03-03 22:34:42

Every few years Go Minis decides to offer an innovative new product into their fleet of storage containers.  Already, Go Mini’s consists of 12’, 16’ and 20' storage containers that are considered the best built containers in the industry.

In 2008, Go Mini’s introduced Portable Refrigeration/Freezer Containers into its fleet for those interested in storing things like perishable cold storage which can be used with catering companies, grocery stores, or restaurants. These containers come in 10' or 20' lengths and can be placed almost anywhere on the property.

In 2013, we are proud to announce the arrival of Climate Controlled Storage Containers.  These containers are capable of plugging into any normal outlet and can be delivered and stored on your site.  The storage containers will hold temperatures in the cooling mode from 65 degrees +/- to 90 degrees with an outside temperature of 90 and in the heating mode will hold temperatures to greater than 65 degrees when the outside temperature is 35 degrees.

These containers work well for customers looking to store highly valuable furniture’s, antiques, candles, paints, electronics, pharmaceuticals etc.

Not All Storage Containers are Created Equal

By Lynn Larson, Go Mini's Portable Storage.

When I speak to one of my friends about portable storage containers here in Ventura County & Los Angeles, they often assume that all portable storage containers are pretty much the same. However there are some important differences that as a consumer you should be aware of. With the increase in popularity of portable storage containers, many companies are using this term to cover what used to be known as “freight” containers. These are often older containers meant for overseas shipping. They can be rusty and leaky, with gaps around the door that would allow insects or small rodents to enter. Unlike Go Mini’s clean, shiny, finished interiors, the interiors of these freight containers are usually unfinished. When placing your items inside a smoothly-finished Go Mini’s container, you can be comfortable that nothing is going to snag your upholstery or leather finish or grate against your fine wood furniture. Freight containers sit directly on the ground, offering no air space underneath the container for air circulation. Go Mini’s portable storage containers are slightly raised on low wheels, so air circulates underneath them, reducing the potential for dampness. Go Mini’s feature an easy-to-operate, roll-up door. Freight container doors are heavy and swing outwards, and can be awkward for the average person to handle. When you enter a freight container, it’s dark inside! It’s hard to find items you may have stored inside. Unless you prop the door open well, it can bang closed behind you. Go Mini’s portable storage containers have translucent roofs that let in plenty of light. So you can easily find your stored items and loading is easier too. These are just some of the differences to be aware of when choosing portable storage containers. Remember, the cheapest portable storage solution isn’t always the least expensive in the long run!
